Nata-aska appears in the Powamuya or Bean Dance and his appearance frightens the children into behaving properly. This ceremony is preparation for the growing season and initiates young children into the Powamuya Society, when they have learned to behave properly, thus preparing them for growth. Nata-aska is a benevolent bogie man spirit. The evergreen ruff around his neck and the fox pelt at the back of his kilt as well as his horned mask with the large jaws all identify Black Ogre.
